When Connor O’Malley agrees to take on the position of sheriff, he finds himself thrust into the middle of a mystery—who is snitching the town’s watch-gears and wheels? The mystery deepens as Connor explores his new “territory” and finds that San Francisco—a riotous combination of wooden structures and canvas tents swarming over the hills, interrupted here and there by grounded ships transformed into shops or hotels—reminds him of a gangly colt whose long, wobbly legs want to go different directions at the same time.
And like that colt, the town holds itself in coiled tension that suddenly explodes.
Into a fiery inferno.
